The Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) is an ecosystem that serves as a contact point with a range of support services for SMEs in the region and beyond with a focus on healthcare. It provides both access to digital knowledge, technologies, prototyping solutions, testing facilities, and engagement with the innovation ecosystem in the region. We believe that digitalisation is our future.

OUR GOALS

Connecting science and industry

Olomouc University Hospital, the Science and Technology Park of Palacký University in Olomouc and the Innovation Centre of the Olomouc Region bring together a space where science and the commercial sphere meet. We do not want our research to remain in a drawer. We want our work to spread to small and medium-sized companies in the region, the Czech Republic and Europe. We believe that the future of healthcare, industry and other sectors lies in digitalisation.

Our goal is to connect DIGI2Health to the network of digital innovation hubs and thus enable SMEs in the region to digitise their processes. We are fully aligned with the principles and goals of the Ministry of Health’s eHealth.



Our services by target groups:

SMEs

■ Provision of facilities and access to infrastructure

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can use available spaces and testing services to validate their innovations before investing in full-scale production. Large companies can collaborate with faculty to test and develop new technologies in real-world environments. Universities can use the infrastructure for applied research and validation of their study results. Other digital innovation hubs can share experience and testing capacities to foster innovation in the field of digital healthcare.

■ Support for entrepreneurs, startups, innovators

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can use expert support for preparing grant applications for innovation projects, including help with developing business plans and financing strategies. Large companies can consult with our experts about co-financing options for research and development and establish cooperation with academic institutions within strategic innovation projects. Universities can expand their grant portfolio through collaboration with industrial partners and benefit from our experience in preparing international project applications. Digital innovation hubs can share best practices in innovation financing through mutual cooperation and receive support for participating in transnational programs that support digitalization.

■ Support for financing and grant consulting

■ Support in the area of digital transformation of the enterprise

Conducting a contextual analysis of the current state, which will include the basic foundations for the consulting project. Based on the results of the analysis, an expert will be selected who has the strongest expertise in the area the client needs to improve. Throughout the process, continuous communication takes place, and a business developer from the innovation center is available to both the client and the expert. At the end, the cooperation is analyzed and the specific changes achieved concerning the plan are evaluated. The same process will be repeated in about a year, when the project results should already be very tangible.

■ Telemedicine and remote patient monitoring

The university hospital can provide expert consultations for companies developing telemedicine tools. This includes technologies for remote monitoring of vital functions, teleconsultations, and tools for sharing medical documentation. Testing of new devices and applications, consultations regarding setting standards and security according to healthcare legislation.

■ AI and Big Data in personalized treatment

The university hospital can utilize its expert know-how in healthcare data analysis and AI for personalized treatment. Companies can receive feedback regarding the use of AI systems, especially in the analysis of data from home care or clinical records. Collaboration on the development and testing of AI algorithms, validation of artificial intelligence models, and training focused on working with big data.

■ Digital healthcare applications for home care

The university hospital can provide consultations and expert guidance to companies developing applications focused on supporting home care. This may include tools for treatment planning, medication adherence monitoring, or patient health status tracking. Pilot projects with home care patients, expert consultations for application developers, and support during clinical evaluations.

■ Wellness and preventive medicine

The university hospital can cooperate with companies focused on wellness and prevention, for example, on the development of smart devices for health monitoring (wearables), disease prevention using digital tools, or patient education. Consultations with FNOL experts in preventive medicine, testing, and verifying the effectiveness of devices or applications.

■ Education, mentoring, and training in the field of eHealth

The university hospital can offer training focused on the use of modern technologies in healthcare, both for companies and for medical staff. Topics may include the use of AI, telemedicine, data management, or regulations in digital healthcare. Organization of workshops, training sessions, or certification programs in cooperation with innovative companies, sharing
FNOL’s expert knowledge.

■ Consulting services in business, expansion, marketing, finance, conducting analysis, and recommending a suitable expert

A consulting program designed for innovative small and medium-sized enterprises (up to 250 employees) as well as more mature startups or micro-enterprises. The areas of consulting projects cover business growth and expansion, including international, marketing, organization and processes, and corporate finance and economics. A condition for entering the program is having a registered office or operation in the Olomouc region, an innovative product or technology, and development potential.

■ Consultations for medical device certification and clinical trials

FNOL can use its expert knowledge and experience with regulation, certification, and conducting clinical trials to support innovative companies in the region. This area is crucial for companies developing medical devices and technologies that require compliance with strict legislative requirements. Consultations focused on requirements under the MDR (Medical Device Regulation) and other legislative regulations. Support in preparing documentation for medical device registration. Joint implementation of clinical trials and provision of professional oversight by FNOL. Participation of FNOL experts in device validation and testing of new technologies.

■ Testing and piloting technologies

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can use the prototyping laboratory for rapid development and testing of their innovations, allowing them to efficiently verify the functionality and reliability of products before market launch. Large companies can collaborate with VTP UP on pilot operation of new technologies in controlled conditions, thus minimizing risks associated with innovation implementation. Universities can use the available equipment for applied research and practical student training, connecting theoretical knowledge with real applications. Other digital innovation hubs can share experience and best practices in testing and prototyping, supporting innovation development and accelerating its implementation in practice.

General Public

■ Support for aspiring entrepreneurs

A consulting program designed for aspiring entrepreneurs, startups, and innovators. It covers areas such as presentation skills, competitor analysis, market analysis and potential, target group definition, financial planning, law, marketing, branding, networking, and investor preparation.

■ Provision of facilities and access to infrastructure

We offer available spaces and testing services to validate your innovations before investing in full-scale production.

■ Support for financing and grant consulting

We offer expert support in preparing grant applications for innovation projects, including assistance with developing business plans and financing strategies.

■ Education and training in the field of eHealth

FNOL can offer training focused on the use of modern technologies in healthcare, both for companies and medical personnel. Topics may include the use of AI, telemedicine, data management, or regulations in digital healthcare. Research facilities can use VTP UP services for the protection and commercialization of their innovations, receive support in establishing spin-off companies, and access legal advice in the field of intellectual property. Large companies can collaborate on licensing university technologies and joint product development. Universities can benefit from VTP UP’s best practices in technology transfer and intellectual property protection. Other digital innovation hubs can share experiences and establish partnerships for effective technology transfer and innovation support.

About European Digital Innovation Hubs

European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs) are one-stop shops supporting companies and public sector organisations to respond to digital challenges and become more competitive.

EDIHs support companies to improve business/production processes, products, or services using digital technologies by:

providing access to technical expertise and testing, as well as the possibility to ‘test before invest’
providing innovation services, such as financing advice, training, and skills development that are central to successful digital transformation
helping companies tackle environmental issues, in particular the use of digital technologies for sustainability and circularity.

EDIHs combine the benefits of a regional presence with the opportunities available to a pan-European network. This regional presence leaves them well-placed to provide the services local companies need, through the local language and innovation ecosystem. The European coverage of the network facilitates the exchange of best practices across hubs in different countries as well as the provision of specialised services across regions when the required skills are not locally available.
